Word Parade
Word Parade at Rusk Intermediate — Where Vocabulary Struts Its Stuff!
Every year around October 31st, while others are just dressing up for candy, Rusk Intermediate students are dressing up for LEARNING and let us tell you, we make it look good. It's the one, the only… WORD PARADE!
Here’s how it works:
- Students pick a new vocabulary word they’ve learned — something big, bold, and maybe even a little brainy.
- Then, they either design a costume that shows off their word, or pick a word that perfectly describes their costume.
And then — it’s go time! We march through the hallways like a walking dictionary runway, showing off our creativity and our smarts.
We’ve had kids dressed as “benevolent,” “camouflaged,” “majestic,” “aquatic,” “volcanic,” “drowsy,” and even “chaotic” (which… was exactly as wild as it sounds). And while it’s hilarious to see a kid trying to explain “metamorphosis” while wearing butterfly wings, it’s also seriously awesome to watch students own their learning.
At Rusk Intermediate, we know that building vocabulary is about more than memorizing big words, it’s about growing confident readers, writers, thinkers, and future world-changers. And if we can do all that while dressed like “ferocious” lions and “radiant” stars? Even better.
So whether you're gallant, giggly, or glorious, grab your word, rock your costume, and join us for the Word Parade — where learning new words isn’t just educational... it’s a whole vibe.
