Fire Prevention Month
Fire Prevention Month at Rusk Intermediate – Stop, Drop, Learn & Laugh!
Every October, things heat up at Rusk Intermediate — safely, of course — as we celebrate Fire Prevention Month! Our amazing local heroes from the Rusk Fire Department and surrounding departments roll in (sirens optional, but always exciting!) to teach our students how to stay safe, smart, and fire-ready.
Big shoutout to our fire departments: not only do they keep our community safe, but they also take time to teach our students life-saving skills, answer a million curious kid questions (“Can you drive through fire?” “Do you sleep in your boots?”), and let us check out their super cool gear and trucks!
During Fire Prevention Month, students learn:
- How to prevent fires at home
- What to do in an emergency
- How to create a fire escape plan
- And yes, they get up-close-and-personal with a real fire truck (sirens may be tested… just once… okay, maybe twice)
It’s fun, it’s loud, it’s hands-on, and best of all — it sticks. Because let’s face it, when a firefighter in full gear crawls through your classroom talking about safety, you remember it forever.
Whether it's learning to "stop, drop, and roll" or realizing that smoke detectors are basically tiny life heroes on your ceiling, our students walk away with knowledge that could one day save lives, plus a lifelong admiration for the real-life superheroes who wear helmets instead of capes.
Thank you, Rusk Fire Department and friends , you make safety cool, and we appreciate every flame-free lesson you bring to our school!
